Samples
Log Sample: Provide one sample (5+ substantive comments) of you playing this character. It can be in brackets or prose, but should not be a network or similar thread.
Questions: Write an IC answer to the following questions:
What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy? Everything. But Fantastics seems the most compelling. I love music so it seems like the most obvious choice to me.
If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while? Well. I have some things to discuss with Mother that were interrupted so, I would like to at leaset return temporarily, to have that conversation with her.
If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react? Enemy? I don't particularly have any enemies so... I don't know what you want me to say here.
When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force? That is a difficult question. If possible I would like to avoid the use of violence but if it is necessary to use it, I won't hesitate.
What should the supreme goal of any wizard be? That is far too big a question for me to answer. I have no idea. End starvation, war and suffering? If magic can do such things, also ending illnesses would be nice.
Special Considerations

Character: Eduard Markgraf von Sekt nahe Braunschweig

Canon: Meine Liebe
Canon Point: Anime season 2, episode 5; when he confronts his step-mother after her assassin failed in killing him
Background: Here.
Personality: Eduard is a cheerful and bright young man who likes to take things easy. He is fairly clever, but is more street smart than books smart, unlike his friends. He is the type of person who can't mask his emotions very well, or at all, and he wears his heart on his sleeve. But he thinks that that's alright, because he doesn't care what other people think of him. He knows that perhaps he actually should care because he is an aristocrat, but he grew up as a normal town boy before he was taught how to be an aristocrat, since his mother was a woman from town that his father had an illict affair with. Still, Ed is casual and relaxed, and very easy-going. He's almost a little too relaxed sometimes, but his friendly nature makes it easy for him to get along with people and his antics can help others calm down and get into better moods. And he likes that, he enjoys helping people feel better, because he's a genuinely kind young man who is incredibly loyal toward those he holds dear.
He does, however, have a little bit of a temper. While he doesn't get as heated about politics as his best friend Orphe, for example, he is passionate and if he gets mad, he really gets mad. It mostly concerns people badmouthing or hurting those that he cares about (as mentioned before, he doesn't give a damn if he's the one who gets insulted) and he'll defend them both fiercly and loudly.
Still, he is a forgiving person, who can listen to reason. He is understanding and if he's inte the wrong, he'll apologize without protest. But about his forgiving side. It's very noticable that he is both forgiving and understanding when one considers his relationship with his stepmother. She hates him more than she hates anyone, because she was unable to give her husband an heir, and her husband brought in Ed as his heir. His stepmother has, on more than one occasion, tried to have Ed killed. For that, people would normally be angered. Ed, on the other hand, is sad, but understands why she is angry with him. He wishes that she wasn't, and deeply hopes that she will accept him one day, but he doesn't expect or ask for it. If she doesn't want to like him, that's alright. It's not her fault that hings turned out the way that they did. Sure, he is sad that she ordered her daughters not to speak to Ed or his younger sister, and that it essentially was because of his steepmother's hatred that his younger sister was sent away, but he doesn't hold grudges easily, not even for that.
Ed's biggest regret is, however, that he was separated from his sister. They promised to find each other again, but he has not yet succeeded in that matter. But he's stubborn and is refusing to give up, even if things sometimes feels hopeless. His sister means the world to him, and he is dead set on finding her again one day, no matter what.
He is multi-talented, and he, for example, is a very good piano player. He might play some songs that are less suitable to formal, rich-people places, though. Not that he can't play the classics, but he does love to play and sing the songs that his mother sang to him and his sister when they were children. That means that he playes them even at school, whish is a school mostly for the priviledged, rich people. But as usual, he doesn't care and playes whatever songs that he wants to play. Besides musically inclined, he is also athletic. He is a member of the equestrian club, and spends a lot of time with the horses. He even has a mare that he calls his girlfriend. He also doesn't mind doing hard work and helping out with taking care of the horses, which, due to his status as an aristocrat, makes people look down on him, since aristocrats are not expected to do labor work. But he can do other sports besides horseback riding, such as tennis, or, really, anything that he things it's interesting. And since he's a curious person, he wants to try all kinds of sports.
One of Ed's flaws is that he is romatically oblivious. He has a female friend called Augusta who also attends the academy, and who also is a member of the equestrian club. She also happens to be in love with him. But Ed, being completely blind to feelings like love when they're directed at him, notices nothing about that. To him, Augusta is just another very precious friend, not a girlfriend. Then there are other girls in school that fawn over him, and he doesn't notice their feelings either. It's definitely not out of cruelty, though, never. Ed is not a cruel person. He's just entirely oblivious to such things. He would never intentionally hurt anyone's feelings.
Ed is a Strahl candidate, bout out of those that has been chosen as potential advisors to the king, Ed doesn't want to be a Strahl. He thinks that the job wouldn't suit him. It's a stiff, serious job, after all, where you have to keep your attention focused, and that is the exacct opposite of what Ed is. He would much rather be an adventurer. Or have some other profession that lets him travel the world, because he wants to see it, and as much different places and culutes, and see as many different kinds of people as possible.
Unlike the other nobles that he's friends with, he doesn't shy away from using his fists in fights. He is a gentleman, although not brought up as one from the start, and should stick to using his sword. Which he is very skilled at using, by the way. But that doesn't mean that he won't use his fists when he deems it necessary. After all, unlike his friends, he doesn't care about appearances or keeping a proper reputation. Which is good because he also lacks any kind of grace.
Abilities:
Athletic: He's a great athlete, excellent at many sports, as well as a quick learner when it comes to physical activity.
Swordsmanship & hand-to-hand; He's an excellent sword fighter, but unlike the other gentlemen he hangs with, he doesn't hesitate to use his fists during a sword fight. He's quick on his feet and a very competent brawler, good at physical contact combat.
Animals: He's good at handling all sorts of animals, but he's particularly good with horses. He's great at riding them, as well as handling and taking care of them.
Music: He's very talented at playing the piano, as well as singing.
Parkour: Except the wouldn't call it that where/when he's from. But he's still surprisingly good at it for a nobleman.
Language: Fluent in German and English, also very good at French, so-so at Latin, decent at Spanish.
Various other things: Particularly things that noblemen probably shouldn't know, like cooking, cleaning, laundry, carpentry, and the likes.
Alignment: Ed would fit under several different alignments however, his regret and guilt over not being able to keep his promise to his younger sister - the promise to stay by her side and protect her - is very defining to him. He hides his grief, though, because he doesn't want to worry those who have accepted him. He is also self-depreciating, because of this and because of the insults he has grown up hearing.
Another defining trait is how forgiving he is. For example, he forgives his step-mother for trying to have him killed on more than one occasion; the only reason he got mad at her about it at all, is because she was about to shoot him with her own hands, and that would make Ed's older sisters sad. He does not want to see his sisters sad.
He is optimistic, friendly, independent, easy-going and enthusiastic, and he has an easy time adapting to situations and getting along with people. He is unwaveringly loyal, and loves those he cares about with all his heart, even if they might hate him, such as his step-mother does.
He wants to see the world become a fair place where people won't be hated or scorned for who they are (birth or family situation, economic status, race, sexuality, anything) and he may be a bit of a realizt, but he is far from being an idealist that can't see both sides, listen to reasoning; he has grown up seeing several sides of the country he was born in, particularly the dark sides but also how bright it also is. He's a realist with dreams, though he knows his place in the world and he knows what struggles lies ahead of him.
In the end, I have realized that he might be best suited to being aligned to Piphron.

General Sample: PSL thread here.
Emotion Sample: When Ed finds himself at a shore he pauses for a while, and he stares out at the glittering water, golden orange in the dawn. The surrounding area bathes in the deepening darkness, and normally, had it been in the middle of the day, or much later in the night, he wouldn't have stopped to think about it.
But he remembers the incident a while back with Elaine, where she had tried to trick him into believing that she was his long-lost sister.
He isn't upset, he had known from the start and had forgiven her, but he is nostalgic. It had felt nice to pretend, for a little while, even if it had beeon one of mother's plots to get rid of him. He had forgiven her for it, too. He knew and understood her loathing.
But he's nostalgic, and he needs to sit down. He isn't only nostalgic about the time he spent with Elaine, bt he also misses home, misses Kuchen, misses his sisters, his friends.
He doesn't notice that the music that he starts to hear comes from nowhere, at first. He thinks maybe a minstrel is nearby, by coincidence, but after a while he glances up, because the music reflects the melancholy feeling, the yearning for those precious to him, all too well. And he doesn't tend to let those sort of feelings show if he can help it- least of all in the falling darkness, they should be tricky to see on his face.
This is an odd place, no matter how much he experiences of it. But he doesn't hate it, and even the music reflecting his feelings are somewhat soothing to him.
Questions: Emotional effects can cause music as a setting reaction, right? It's not only flowers, loss of color, and all that stuff, if I've understood correctly. Musical effects is what I want to use most of all for Ed.

Which is good because he also lacks any kind of grace.

history
Ed was born 1918 in the Kuchen Kingdom in Europe, as the bastard son of Marquis Braunschweig and a woman of lower rank. The woman also had a daughter called Elaine. After the sibling's mother died, their father came and since he had no legitimate son, he took them in, and brought them to the Braunscheweig manor to live with him, his wife, and his three daughters. The daughters were happy to have younger siblings, but the wife was not pleased, and was mean to the two, forbidding her daughters from talking to Ed and Elaine, and being rude and unaccepting toward them. To protect Elaine, the marquis sent her away to another family, so she could be brought up safely. The two siblings split Elaine's white hair ribbons between them, so that they had one each to identify each other with, before Elaine left. Once Elaine was with a new family, she also changed her name and became Erika Krause, although this was nothing that Ed was aware of.
Ed met a boy named Orphe at a party, and became best friends with him over the years. Ed also spent a lot of time doing physical activities, like sports, horseback riding, and fencing, and became good at all of it, as well as the piano, which his father had played to his mother.
He became a student at the Rozenstolz Academy, which is the best school in the country and has an accompanying school town surrounding it, and he was chosen as a Strahl candidate. The Strahl are the king's personal advisers. Other people were also chosen as candidates, and besides Orphe, he became close with Ludwig, Camus, and Naoji. He doesn't know that later, his sister comes to Rozenstolz as well.
One day, the rumour that Ed isn't of noble birth is spred in the school, and Orphe thinks that the perpetrator is Ludwig (since Orphe and Lui have completely different values and doesn't get along) and since Lui doesn't deny it - when it in fact was one of Lui's followers who started the rumour - Orphe challenges him to an illegal fight. It's interrupted by Naoji and Ed, and the real perpetrator is outed by them. But the situation makes Ed long for his sister more than he usually does, and when he meets a girl in town harassed by some men, he is reminded of Elaine, and finds out that she has the same name as her, so he thinks that she might be her. However, she was hired by his stepmother to tempt him to break the school rules so he would be expelled by the school and cast out by his father. He was saved by Orphe and a mysterious man when he was attacked, however, and thanks to Lui refusing to let the teachers check for missing boys in the dormitory (since the dormitories are run by the students to teach them how to govern themselves) Ed managed to stay in school and in his family.
Camus has the special ability of talking to flowers and seeing flashes of the future. He tells Ed and Orphe of when he first met Lui, who is his cousin. Victor Griffith, an alumni with the same ability as Camus approaches him, asking for Camus' help since he has lost his own ability and has encountered misfortune in business. When Camus saves another boy from an accident thanks to his abilities, the other students (sans Camus' friends among the candidates) thinks that he caused it and they cat scared of him. Griffith asks Camus to come work for him, and when Camus says no, he tries to kidnap the boy, but his friends comes to save him. Ed and Orphe also, during this inceident, meets the man that helped saving Ed, and learns that he's a Brit named Isaac.
When Naoji is homesick for Japan - because Naoji is an exchange student from there - Ed brings him to town to help him take his mind off of things. There, they are approached by an inn keeper, who tells them that one of her guests is a Japanese man who is on his death bed, and asks if they can't come see him, as the man longs to speak Japanese with someone again before he dies. Naoji stays the night, while Ed goes back to make sure his friend is not found out. Once he returns, Naoji is feeling much better, since he found strength in the man's biography.
The candidates are invited to a ball that Lui's family is holding, and are introduced to Lui's new fianceé, and at the party, the King's elder brother (who is Lui's uncle) makes an appearance, but he soon leaves again, after he made sure an explosive device is planted at the party. It's set off and Lui is saved by his friends. Ed tries to follow the perpetrator but the one who made the explosives go off managed to run away. Lui later tells them that he has cancelled his marriage.
Isaac visits the school as a foreign writer gathering material, and he interviews the students. Both Orphe and Lui get scolded by him for having either naive or dangerous opinions. He also tells them as his time as a soldier. Later that night Lui and Orphe are locked into a warehouse which is set on fire, and they are saved by Isaac.
Rozenstolz has a student exchange with another school, and Ed and Naoji are sent away to it. When they return, they get to hear that a female student named Ishtar tried to take over the school and, ultimately, overthrow the king, and that Lui pretended to take her side and threatens to uncover her if she doesn't leave the school immediately.
On the day of Orphe's sister's memorial day, Ed takes him to town to cheer him up, and they meett Isaac, who brings them to a local pub where they play billiards. Orphe gets a memento stolen by a drunkard, and when he has to choose between the locket and the drunk's life, he saves the man instead. The drunk finds and returns the locket later, though.
A graduate of Rosenstolz Academy is disturbing the students with his offers of unimaginable pleasures. The five Strahl candidates set out to meet up with Josef Torger, and Torger reveals that he earned his money through blackmailing nobles who conducted illegal activities. Torger gets offered a teaching position at the school by the headmaster, but he declines the offer, tells everyone to evacuate his manor, and then sets it and himself on fire.
Orpheus receives a visit from his dead sister’s fiancé, and then goes missing. When Ed has been gone for longer than expected, Ed gets worried and goes to talk to the other candidates about it. Lui reveals that him and his father has found out about a plan to assassinate the king, and Ed understands that it's more important to protect the king than to blindly look for Orphe. Lui position the other Strahl candidates in strategic points to protect the king from being assassinated. A teacher, Beruze, uncovers his true form as one of the members of the operation of taking the king's life, and Isaac helps Orphe to reach the academy in time to confront him. The king's life is saved and Orphe is reunited with his friends. It is also revealed that the king's brother had part in the assassination.
The students goes on vacation from school, and during the last day of it, Ed and Orphe are approached by the headmaster, as are the other Strahl candidates. When they return to school, they find out that the headmaster has been replaced and that a lot of reforms are to happen at the school. Headmaster Werner claims that good people does not always come from the best financial background. The entire school is abuzz, preparing for the series of tests that will determine who will learn in which class. Not everyone is as open minded about it as the headmaster and argues breaks between the students. The discord causes pressure on Camus, who is very sensitive to it. Orpherus and Edward gain an audience with the king, but one of the teachers, Ailos, pulls some connections and other people are brought in front of the king instead of them. Nearly despairing they decided that if the situation will call for it, they will not attend their candidate assessment tests. But the meeting with the king leaves them with more questions and answers, as it is clear that he is hiding something. They manage to make it back in time thanks to one of the new teachers, Gerald.
Ed's stepmother makes a pact with the Beruze, saying that if Beruze will get rid of Ed she will sign a petition and convince her husband to sign as well. Beruze calls Ed away from Rosenstolz in false pretence and there ambushes him. Ed’s horse fell into a steep valley and Ed got injured, but he is not dead. While making his way home he realizes that his father is not really sick, and goes to confront his step mother. Meanwhile, Orphe is surprised to be visited by Ed’s father and soon realizes that Ed has been set up. Together they follow Ed to Ed’s home.
Following the incident with Ed and his rising insecurities, Camus withdraws from Rosenstolz. He returns to his house but can’t find the peace he has hoped for, while Ed and Orphe meet with his brother to try and convince him to encourage Camus to return. Thanks to one of the new Strahl candidates, Elmunt, Camus regains his confidence and returns to school.
Lui invites Orphe, Ed, Camus and Naoji to his house because his mother is feeling depressed. Orphe realizes that Lui’s mother is depressed not only because her brother betrayed her other brother last year, but Lui refuses to tell him anything. Lui’s mother breaks down in the middle of the visit, and Naoji helps her as well as himself to find peace once again.
In the middle of the day the imperial army surround Rozenstolz and accuse Lui of severe treason. Lui’s family is out of Kuchen and Lui is planning to run into hiding, and gets help from his friends despite declining their offers of help. While on the run, the five Strahl candidates are intercepted by Isaac’s men, and Isaac shoots at Orphe, but misses deliberately. Ed sees him. After making sure Lui is safe, Ed searches for Isaac, walking in the less fortunate areas of the city at night. Ed finds Isaac, who tells him to get Lui out of the country, and is later found by Professor Gerald, who agrees not to tell on him if he won’t disobey the school rules again. Ed is bothered by his conversation with Isaac, while the pursuit after Lui continues.
Beruze takes over the palace and force the king to hear his demands. Understanding that Beruze has made his move, Lui sets out to stop him, but Orphe, Naoji, Ed and Camus insists on coming as well. They are stopped by Ailos, but receive the unexpected support of the entire academy. Once they reach the sealed off palace, they are being shown to a tunnel by Professor Gerald, and confront with both Isaac and Beruze. Headmaster Bartholomew returns. Beruze runs off once headmaster Bartholomew informs them that England and Kuchen are now official allies in the upcoming war, and the Strahl candidates chase after him. They find him in an abandoned warehouse where he confronts headmaster Werner, his half-brother, and tries to commit suicide. Once everything is over, the Strahl candidates have a conversation with the king, where he asks them to study diligently so that they could become his advisors. It is also revealed that Professor Gerald is actually one of the king’s advisors who taught at the school as a favor for a friend – headmaster Bartholomew, who regained his position.
Ed met a boy named Orphe at a party, and became best friends with him over the years. Ed also spent a lot of time doing physical activities, like sports, horseback riding, and fencing, and became good at all of it, as well as the piano, which his father had played to his mother.

Characters Name: Eduard Markgraf von Sekt nahe Braunschweig
Age: 17
Canon: Meine Liebe
Canon Point: Post anime s2
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Orientation: Oblivious bisexual, if he wasn't obliged to marry a woman/if he knew more about different sexualities.
History: link
Appearance: link & link
Abilities:
- Athletic: He's a great athlete, excellent at many sports, as well as a quick learner when it comes to physical activity.
- Swordsmanship & hand-to-hand; he's an excellent sword fighter, but unlike the other gentlemen he hangs with, he doesn't hesitate to use his fists during a sword fight.
- Horses: he's great at riding them, as well as handling and taking care of them.
- Music: he's great at playing the piano, as well as singing.
- Parkour: Except the wouldn't call it that where/when he's from. But he's still surprisingly good at it for a nobleman.

Third Person: Eduard wasn't the most graceful person in existance, and he was definitely not the most graceful among the Strahl candindates (that title could be held by any of his other friends, though, since they were all pretty much grace itself) what with how he could trip over his own feet or fall from benches when trying to pull off that sitting position Naoji meditates in, or... any other thing that he ends up looking like an idiot doing. But that was perfectly fine, Ed wasn't picky, he didn't mind lacking grace, even when it made people laugh at him. He would just laugh with them instead of getting upset, though a lot of people got thrown off and stopped laughing when that happened. But never mind, never mind.
It might be a little worse when he accidentally causes someone else to get dragged into his lack of grace, though.
He really didn't mean it, but he mistakenly tipped over when he was trying to get used to how the bikes here worked. They weren't much different from the bikes they had in 1935, but they were somewhat different and in the first place, Ed was more used to riding horses than riding bikes.
Not entirely able to extract himself from the bike completely painlessly, he winced a little as he managed to stand up, and offered the person he had knocked over a hand. "I'm really sorry, are you alright?" Because to him, it was much more important to make sure that the other party was alright before seeing what damage had been made to the bike, and to him.
